Fruit @ Lantern Festival 2011
On a cold, March night out in Pingsi, I ventured out for the famous Lantern Festival. Indeed, it was spectacular. Thousands of small fires, the result of what creosote coated paper touched to a lighter can do, raise large paper lanterns to the skies in the hope of good luck. When you get hungry from all the jostling of the crowd, you can eat. Almost anything. Our daring/darling Marty negotiated a fruit sale that proved to be most delicious, and it was later topped off with píjiǔ as a nightcap.
A teacher for many years in the USA, Thailand, Egypt, Indonesia, Israel and Taiwan, I have tried to have a "full experience" in the countries I have lived in. I always try to improve my teaching through observing colleagues and from web-based resources. Today, the use of technology has changed the role educators play. Educational practices are changing in order to recognize and embrace all that technology brings to our programs and all that technology makes possible for our students. We wanted lifelong learners, independent learners. Now we have more of these independent learners because they make use of technology to collaborate and further their interests.
