Staying on the Wos River outside Ubud Dec. 09

The river is the center of life in Bali. People go to the river for everything, to bathe, wash clothes, haul water and to socialize. About 12 years ago the painter Arie Smit, when asked the biggest change he has seen in his 70+ years in Bali he said, "... the introduction of toilets." Toilets removed one socialization opportunity for some of the villagers, but not all. Staying on the river was a great way to spend mornings, evenings and to watch life in Bali outside of the mainstream.
