From Varanasi to Jaiselmer - Rajistan Here We Come

After a wonderful time in Varanasi the time to leave came too soon but a stop in Saranath on the way out was needed. We wanted to see where Buddha first spoke while we were near to it. This was a stop worth making. We then flew from Varanasi to Jaipur and then grabbed the train for a L-O-N-G ride to Jaiselmer. We didn't need to stop at the Rat Temple because we found that most of the rats in Jaipur had come to see us off at the train station. The tracks looked as if they were moving there were so many rats. After waiting and waiting for the "late-train" we settled into our overnight "suite" for our trip that lasted into the next afternoon. It is a fun train ride through Rajistan. Of course we had room service and all the comforts that a class two ticket can get you. Ok, so it was only the "chai man" who came by ONCE but he did have good masala chai. The curry snacks were not bad either. Many stops later we arrived in Jaiselmer and were whisked away in a bajaj for our guest house. Raja Palace was wonderful. Great people who did a good job of making you feel good about being outside the fort, enjoying their city. Good views of the fort and desert; tasty food and warm blankets for the sunset and sunrise times. The colors of the fabrics as spectacular as the sunsets.
