the last road trip: Agra and back

Yes the road to Agra from Delhi is now four lanes and yes there is a divider down the middle but does it matter? Sharing the road with bikes, cows, bajas and Tatas makes for some fun traveling. With the right attitude (ignore what is going on outside the vehicle) and plenty of patience the trip to Agra and back gives you a treat on both ends. To see the Taj is marvelous and to return to your hotel in one piece is nothing short of a miracle. Entering the Taj is much less of a hassle than I remember in 1989. There is security now and the fee is certainly much higher to get in but the number of people pushing sandstone artifacts and useless souvenirs upon you is much less. Once inside, the view is still spectacular and the Taj Mahal is truly one of the marvels of the world. Even nicer was the lunch on the rooftop nearby where we were able to enjoy some great food and a spectacular view of the Taj Mahal. Incredible India indeed.
